So, I haven't posted anything in a while, and this is (semi) no exception. Heres the thing, one of the guys at my work has a bunch of Jim Henson action figures at his desk. I would pass by them every day, and my brain would register the usual "oh look, I remember those things". I figure I know their design through, and through, no need for farther examination.
One day as we were going over some designs, I took the opportunity to do such an examination. It was like looking into my own head. Yeah sure, still no need to put much time into Kermit, or miss piggy, and discard any "regurgitated Jim Henson" (his design mixed with grotesque, modern, graphic design), but look stuff like this news reporter, and his set. Maybe its me, but this image holds the quality of child like amusement, and terrifying nightmare, I love it, i don't feel like I can get much into the reasons, I don't know if credit should actually go to the man, or simply the era
I didn't mean to sound degrading, Jim Henson knew what he was doing. I Don't want to come off as making some kind of deep statement from the world of advanced thinking in the arts, for those of you who may think his work "amateurish". I DONT TRY TO B.S. PEOPLE everyday I wonder why the little under achiever of my past, sits at a desk of his own, and works on stuff, so many others wish they could be working on.
What I mean to say is that I don't know what drives my lines when I working on my own stuff. It doesn't seem to be classical realism these days, or technique. what ever it is, it seems Henson saw it.
